Imani programs

The overall objective of Imani is to provide parental care and guidance to the orphans and vulnerable children, to rehabilitate and to re-integrate them into the society, to address and alleviate factors leading to the phenomenon of their situation.

Imani has identified, developed and implemented successful interventions which have led to the realization of the following major achievements:

  • Increased networking, linkages and collaborations regionally and nationally resulting in a wider presence
  • Imani has successfully mobilized and enhanced the capacity of CSO’s to respond to children needs.

Imani A

This is the mother center and was established in 1992. It covers an area of 1/3 hectare of land and situated in Soweto slums of Kayole Nairobi; Kenya. This branch has a capacity of 150 children of both sexes. This is also where the older children, from twelve years of age upward are housed, as they need closer observation which can be realized easier in Imani “A”.

Imani B

This is located about three kilometers from Imani “A”. It was established in 1996. This was as a response to the increased number of street children at the time. It is also located in a village set up known as Matopeni. The center has a capacity of 100 children of both sexes and of ages 3 to 12 years. A small animal farm is found in Imani ‘B’. This provides at least part of the daily requirement for dairy products, but also allows the children to get acquainted with animal rearing, as part of the rehabilitation activities.

Imani Malindi Rescue / holiday Project

This is a rescue center for orphans and vulnerable children at Malindi which is at the coast side of Kenya. The project is also not a permanent home for the children, but a rescue centre for a period of time after which the children rescued are re- integrated into the community and only in the best interest of an individual child. Malindi project is also a holiday place for the children in Imani Nairobi projects. It is a project for the teenage boys of ages 15-18 years. The boys are prepared to acquire skills in education and are all in secondary schools. They are also prepared for a re union with their families.

After Imani boys Project.

It is a project for the young persons (boys) who have not known their families at any level and therefore when they attain 18 years and are rehabilitated they have no where they can stay before they are settled independently. They are also of above 18 years their ages not eligible to stay in a children’s home.

They are housed in this project temporarily and the contract period does not exceed three years. From this project they access collage education from different collages and report back to their houses. Before their contract period elapses they are supposed to have acquired life skills and ready to go back to the community as resourceful citizen.
